Midnight Express
by Christopher Fisher
This toccata-like solo is marked presto and literally seems to speed through the night. In C minor and 4/4 meter, it features a rhythmic ostinato in the left-hand accompaniment and melodic ostinato in the right-hand melody. In A-B-A form, harmonic fourths used in the B section imitate the mournful sound of the train whistle. The entire piece begins quietly, builds to forte, then fades quietly at the end.

for Pianists and Teachers:
Strategies to Develop the
Mind and Body for
Optimal Performance
by Gail Berenson et al
A Symposium for Pianists and Teachers is a unique volume built on the selected areas of interest and expertise of ten different authors. More a compendium of thoughts dealing with the playing of the piano most easily, efficiently and without physical injury, than a 'this is the only way' approach. Concise and accessible, readers can glean something concrete and usable, some practical, 'down-to-earth' advice, from each chapter.
